Information sought on illegally killed elk in Montezuma County - Yellow Jacket area

Anyone who provides a tip that leads to an arrest is eligible for a reward.
Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call CPW. If anyone happened to be in the area and saw anything suspicious or unusual, please call Sturdevant at 970-749-1435. 

 

DOLORES, Colo. – Colorado Parks and Wildlife is seeking information about an elk that was killed illegally in Montezuma County the evening of Aug 25 or early morning of Aug 26.

The head of the bull elk was cut off and the carcass left to rot, said Matt Sturdevant, a district Wildlife Manager for CPW. The elk was found by a landowner near the community of Yellow Jacket.

Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call CPW. If anyone happened to be in the area and saw anything suspicious or unusual, please call Sturdevant at 970-749-1435. 

A reward is available through Colorado’s Operation Game Thief for information leading to the successful prosecution of the violators. Reports can also be made anonymously through Operation Game Thief at 1-877-265-6648 or via email at: game.thief@state.co.us.
