Salute to Austin Green
He is the youngest recipient of the Saluting Excellence award, and if you sit down with him for a minute, you will understand why.
The many nominations said he was kind-hearted, dedicated to family and peers, has a winning attitude, and strives for excellence.
He is the son of April Kline and John Merchant.
Austin is a senior at DCHS. His goal was to join the Marine Corp, but an eye injury has brought that to a stand still. He was stabbed in the eye at a young age.
He hasn't given up on the military, as he is trying for other branches. If that doesn't work out, he will join the job corp.
One thing Austin is proud of is his mentoring of youth. He works with the youth mostly at the First Baptist Church, teaching lessons and just being a friend.
He has been taught by his mentors and parents to be active in giving back to the community . He is active in several youth groups and with STUD.
Austin is proud to be an athlete - in all sports in high school. His favorite is playing center and defensive end in Bulldog football.
His nomination said: " Your winning attitude and strife for excellence is above and beyond. You reached for the stars and have obtained your goals with an attitude of never giving up."
We wish you the best of luck in anything you plan for your future.
