Local Resident Needs Community Support
Toni Samora (59) has been fighting ovarian cancer since her diagnosis in October 2016. Her family is asking for help.
At the time of her diagnosis, she was working at Sunray Park & Casino as a Cage Manager and was fully insured.
Samora then endured several rounds of chemo, radiation, a hysterectomy, and a craniotomy.
Despite her aggressive fight, the cancer has continued to spread and is now in her bones and has engulfed her liver.
Through no fault of her own, Samora lost her life insurance on May 1st. She has been paying into it for 20 years.
It would have cost her over $400/ month to keep it - and her budget could not carry that amount.
Now, doctors have recently determined that there is nothing else medical providers could do to extend her life.
Samora is still fighting bravely, but is now in hospice care and at the end of her battle with cancer. Her doctor gave her less than 6 months to live on this Earth and her family is asking for help to prepare for the expenses for a respectful service for her and her family when the time comes.
The family needs to raise about $12,000, an amount too steep for them at this time.
One of Samora's four daughters is Healther Beanland. Beanland recently moved away to be closer with her mother in Aztec, NM. Beanland's children and their father (Billy Beanland) are lifelong residents of Dolores County.
Beanland stated that her mother enjoyed her time visting the family and fishing at Miramonte with them. She also said that Samora absolutely LOVES Adobe Milling beans.
A GoFundMe account has been opened for Samora.
All donations are appreciated. If there is any left over, the money will be to help her husband for living costs, as he is disabled.
