Charles Lester "Chub" Myers
Charles Lester (Chub) Myers was born May 18, 1933, in Egnar, Colorado to Martha Alice Snyder Myers Bradfield and Claude William Myers.
Chub was a hard worker and always busy at something. He wore many hats, and could do anything. He always said, "Even if I didn't know how to do something, I would never admit it." He could always learn and he did.
His Dad passed away when he was 5-years-old, leaving his mother to be both a mother and father to Chub and his older sister, Dorothy. She did a wonderful job.
Chub started working at the age of 8-years-old helping his parents' cowpuncher friends. They helped him grow up to be a cowboy. Well, not really a cowboy, but a cowpuncher. He says a cowpuncher takes care of cattle on the range, while a cowboy performs in a rodeo. He was a cowpuncher, and a good one.
Chub was a mechanic and truck driver, Deputy Marshal under Leonard Higgins in the early '60s, and Undersheriff for Bob Johnson in the late '60s.
He served on the Town Board and the Dove Creek Health Clinic Board. While on the Town Board, he was Mayor Pro Tem for Mayor Norm Waddoups. Some people called them Norm and Abnorm. Draw your own conclusions.
He was a retired volunteer Fireman for Dove Creek Volunteer Fire Department, and served on the School Board for eight years.
He was President of the Advisory Board for the Senior Citizens for 20 plus years. He felt he deserved a medal for being the only male with "those women".
He served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He worked as Safety Engineer for Union Carbide for twenty-nine years, having to retire after having the first of several heart attacks.
On October 20, 1952, Chub married Wilma Delano, thereafter known to everyone who knew him as "his girlfriend". They had 66 1/2 years of mostly wedded bliss.
Chub is survived by his wife, Wilma of the home, son Tom (Pam) of Cahone, CO; daughter Barbara (Joe); son Claude (Pam) of Winnemucca, NV; sister Dorothy McCullough of Albuquerque, NM; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Chub was preceded in death by his mother Martha Bradfield, father Claude William Myers, brother, Howard Myers, and sister, Hazel Tewell.
