2019 Dove Creek Wrestling Dawg Fight a Success
The Dove Creek High School wrestling team hosted a successful Dawg Fight tournament where we had eleven competitors and four placers.
Freshman Gaige Cressler, Jackie Dennison, Shyrae Dennison, Jessy Gore, Isaiah Martinez, and Jayden Sanders all wrestled hard and ended up one match away from the medal round.
In his first tournament Will McKellips picked up a solid win and came close to placing as well. Freshmen Quaden Huffaker and Dustin Glover, and Sophomore Jasmine Martinez each picked up quality matches on their way to placing third.
The highlight of the tournament was first year wrestler Caden Baker claiming the championship bracket at 132 pounds with five pins.
Dove Creek placed fourth as a team and competed against the likes of larger schools in Durango and Bayfield.
A huge thank you goes out to Lindsay Cressler (Murdock) for running our hospitality room and to the wrestling parents and grandparents who brought food for all of the coaches, officials, and table help.
Thank you to Steve Stiasny, Annie Stiasny, Chorbin Cressler, and Gauge Thompson for running tables the entirety of the tournament, and to Tara Glover and Cheyenne Harrington for being our time tappers.
Roxie Guynes acted as our tournament director and ensured that everything ran smooth and according to form; we received many compliments on the efficiency and quality of our tournament, so thank you Roxie.
Thank you for all of your support and continue to come out and support your 2019-2020 Bulldog Wrestling Team.
