The Journal (Cortez) – The Colorado State Forest Service ranked towns that might be impacted by wildfires. Dolores and Towaoc were both warned that wildfires could be a danger. Dolores was put on voluntary evacuation this past summer when the Plateau Fire turned south and burned to within six miles of town. ∞ The Cortez Planning and Building Department is investigating the idea of reducing the cost of certain building permits and use tax to promote residential building. It’s not a new idea. The city cut permit and use tax fees in 2008 by 50% and Planning and Building Director Sam Proffer said it worked well then. ∞ Colorado Governor Hickenlooper asked the Colorado Supreme Court to consider revising TABOR and Gallagher regulations, but the court said, “No thanks.” The Bridge Emergency Shelter procured a $560,000 grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka’s affordable housing program.
