Mental Health First Aid - Free Class in Dove Creek

Dove Creek, CO: Similar to ‘First Aid’ and CPR, ‘Mental Health First Aid’ teaches individuals how to help those experiencing mental health challenges or crises. The course will also cover depression and mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychosis, and substance use disorders. Participants will learn a 5-step action plan that guides them through the process of reaching out and offering appropriate support.

Mental Health First Aid teaches about recovery and resiliency – the belief that individuals experiencing these challenges can and do get better, and use their strengths to stay well. Mental health challenges – such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, and substance use – are common, and this course will help build basic skills to support attendees in responding to someone who is experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis event. Current statistics indicate that more than one in five American adults will have a mental health challenge or crisis event in any given year. Mental Health First Aid is identified on SAMHSA's National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices and helps the public and community members better identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses or crisis.
